Governor Sherrill Directs the Lowering of U.S. and
New Jersey Flags in Honor of
State Senator Barry Tallman Parker

 

Governor Mikie Sherrill today signed Executive Order No. 24, ordering U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Friday, September 25, 2026, in recognition and mourning of State Senator Barry Tallman Parker. Senator Parker passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the age of 93. A U.S. Army Ranger, former Speaker of the General Assembly, and former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Parker devoted his life to public service.

 

“Barry Parker dedicated his life to serving New Jersey with distinction in uniform, in the General Assembly, in the State Senate, and as counsel to the firefighters who protect our communities,” said Governor Sherrill. “His leadership in both houses of the Legislature helped shape our state for a generation. He will be deeply missed by his wife Ann, his family, and all those whose lives were touched by his commitment to service.”

 

This Order shall take effect immediately.
